HMV Record Stores
LOCATION: 234 West 42nd Street
Towering nearly 55ft. above street level, the HMV spectacular incorporates a variety
of signage elements and light sources. Most prominent among them are eight foot high open
face cannel neon letters reading HMV. Six stokes of pink neon per letter blaze
out into the street, flashing in a programmed, repeating sequence.
To the right of the letters a fiberglass stock of disc's is ringed with
sequenced blue neon, drawing the eye up to the 8' x 10' Trivision display.
Below the channel letters are five rotating fiberglass CD's, decorated with digitally
images, printed on repositionable film. These CD's are mounted to an 8' deep
projecting canopy, which is encased in Ruby Red neon, also programmed to illuminate in
sequence.
Finally, three smaller sets of flashing channel letters, an electronic message center
and vinyl graphic window dressing completes the package at street level.
